Mike's Story

Before I came to the New Foundation Center, my life was shaky. My glucose levels were fluctuating so much even insulin wasn’t helping. I got an infection, then pneumonia. The people around me didn’t understand my physical problems, and I didn’t know how to help myself.”

Now, Michael’s getting the right amount of support. For example, he and his doctor created a sliding scale insulin injection, so he could take only as much as he needs, based on his blood sugar levels. During the day, his care manager helps verify the amounts; at night, the house manager is available if Michael needs help with his medications.

“They opened a new door for me. It’s given me the freedom to meet new people and establish better relationships; the freedom to get back on my feet and be independent. This is everything I wanted.”
