WilPower art therapy clients to present a festival Friday

Poetry, musical performance, jewelry and still art will be featured this weekend at the WilPower Annual Expressive Arts Festival, taking place from 1:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Friday at the Heller Nature Center, 636 Ridge Road, Highland Park.

Judy Perlman, WilPower director, will be honored for her work to expand the expressive arts programming available to agency participants. The artists will perform, exhibit and sell their art work, created in sessions with art therapist Gail Fried.

WilPower is a not-for-profit agency supported by government funds, fees and contributions from the community. It serves 200 members in its center at 444 Frontage Road, Northfield, and operates permanent supported housing for 41 members in Glencoe, Morton Grove, Skokie and Wilmette.

It has provided housing, employment, psychiatric rehabilitation and recovery services for people with serious mental illness in the northern suburbs since 1989.
